The Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) has entered into a partnership with Motorola which will see the expansion and expansion and enhancement of Vinaphone’s GSM network in Vietnam’s major cities, including Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
According to the contract, Motorola will provide the provisioning of over 650 cell sites, deployment of equipment as well as commissioning, optimization and maintenance services. Partial shipment of the equipment is slated for the end of year with the balance aimed for completion in 2008.
“These contracts are the latest milestones in a very busy year for both Vinaphone and Motorola. Through enhanced collaboration and partnership with Motorola, Vinaphone is rapidly expanding its ability to serve Vietnam’s ever-growing mobile phone user population with wider coverage, expanded capacity as well as higher quality voice and data services, “said David Knapp, president of Motorola Vietnam.
“Earlier this year, we struck a deal to expand Vinaphone’s network in the northern provinces. That project is nearing completion. We are also cooperating with Vinaphone to greatly expand GPRS coverage in the country and provide EDGE service in major metropolitan areas.”
Motorola’s team worked with Vinaphone on these network expansion projects to help optimize their business operations, making it cost efficient for Vinaphone to reach and maintain the high levels of performance and reliability that earn greater customer loyalty and enhance brand image.
Our partnership with Motorola will enable Vinaphone to offer better coverage and capacity in important rural and urban areas. With the implementation of EDGE in the cities and broader GPRS coverage, Vinaphone is able to provide an enhanced user experience. Our content providers will also benefit from the implementation of a new content charging gateway,” said Dr. Hoang Trung Hai, CEO, Vinaphone,” |
