Korean Air Deploys Oracle E-Business Suite for Integrated ERP and MRO Project

Korean Air, one of the largest airline companies in Korean and internationally has decided to integrate Oracle’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) applications in a bid to drive increased competitiveness, said an Oracle Korean release late last week.

This project which according to Korean Air is “the largest information technology (IT) transformation project in the Asian airlines industry” is based the Oracle E-Business Suite and will be completed in two phases

It will establish financial management, materials and resources planning and optimization, facilities and ground services management and catering by January 2009, and establish MRO by May 2010.

With this new fully integrated MRO/ERP system, Korean Air expects to improve process efficiency through establishing new information system architecture that integrates all key business processes. This includes MRO and finance processes, which are critical to helping deliver safe airline operations, assure reliability and availability of airline fleets and optimize total cost of ownership. Also, the company will achieve greater regulatory framework compliance, as well as establish efficient, integrated inter-department processes.

"We selected Oracle as it offers the most comprehensive solutions that are tailored to meet our specific business needs. Other key considerations for selecting Oracle included: ease of use and deployment of the system as well as strong support from across the Oracle organization for the project,” said Sang–Man Lee, head of ERP project team, Korean Air.

“The new Oracle Applications system will enable Korean Air to improve its process efficiencies, service levels and regulatory compliance. We expect that Oracle Applications will help us maximize the company’s global competitiveness by providing us with an innovative, integrated system that is based on open standards,” said Won–Tae Cho, director of ERP project team, Korean Air.
